AFL Finals Form Guide: Week 2

8/09/2008 8:49:00 AM.  | Nick Markham

Friday, 7.50pm: Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans at the MCG

Head-To-Head: Played 143, Bulldogs 73, Swans 69, Drawn 1

Last time they met:
Bulldogs 17.11 (113) def Sydney 14.13 (97) at Manuka Oval

Finals record: Played 2, Bulldogs 1, Swans 1

Recent form

Bulldogs:
Non-existent.

The Dogs have hit September with barely a whimper, losing six of their past eight games.

The one thing in their favour is the fact they've beaten the Swans twice this year, and as recently as Round 18, so they are entitled to go in confident they can get the job done.

Swans: Marginally better than the Bulldogs.

Limped into the post-season but turned it on in the second half against the Kangaroos, and there was enough signs from the Swans key players to suggest they will be more than competitive against a side that has to be struggling for self-belief.

The Winner: Gets to lose to the all-conquering Cats in a preliminary final.

Saturday, 7.30pm: St Kilda v Collingwood at the MCG

Head-to-head: Player 203, St Kilda 53, Collingwood 149, Drawn 1

Last time they met: Collingwood 14.13 (97) def St Kilda 12.11 (83) at the MCG

Finals record: Played 7, Saints 4, Collingwood 3

Recent form

St Kilda: Hammered an undermanned Essendon to sneak into the top-four on percentage, but Sunday's meek capitulation against the Cats suggests they are still a fair way off the top sides.

Having said that, the Saints would fancy their chances against the Pies, and they can turn it on at times, as their Round 16 win over Hawthorn showed.

Collingwood: Have done a great job to find themselves is this position despite a late-season form slump combined with the controversy surrounding suspended stars Heath Shaw and Alan Didak.

Saturday's upset of the Crows, coupled with the fact they're the only team to boast a win over the Cats this season means the Pies can never be underestimated.

The Winner:
Will take on the in-form Hawks in a preliminary final.

There's no doubt the Hawks will be cheering for a Collingwood victory. They've thumped the Pies on two occasions this season, while they're only clash against the Saints resulted in a loss.

The Winner: Gets to lose to the all-conquering Cats in a preliminary final - get off the grass! If the Swannies get past the Dogs on Friday, they stand as good a chance as anyone of taking another flag this year. They are hitting their straps at the perfect time to charge home into the finals again!

What a Joke. The mighty cats will crush all before them. It doesn't matter which one of these two weak teams get through
