Baddeley bemused after St Louis defeat

Aaron Baddeley has rated his season a five out of 10 after after finishing equal 10th behind Colombian winner Camilo Villegas at the St Louis PGA Tour event today.

After teeing off four strokes from the lead, Baddeley crept within three shots after back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes, but a bogey at the 15th was the end of the penny section as he shot one-under-par 69 to finish six strokes behind Villegas.

"I didn't feel I was in contention enough," Baddley of his season.

"I just didn't have the speed of the greens today.

"I left four or five (putts) short in the middle."

Baddeley failed to qualify for the Tour Championship later this month, leaving Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby the only Australians in the 30-man field, as Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott also did not advance.

Scott will be in Atlanta that week, but only to film a series of television commercials for his major sponsor.

"After Atlanta, I've got to go home and rest a bit and enjoy myself a bit more," said Scott, whose past four months have been a waste as he has battled illness, as well as a broken bone in his right hand, courtesy of a slammed car door.

"The last month and a half hasn't been very enjoyable, amongst the illness and poor golf and being on tour for about eight weeks.

"It's been too long for me. Plenty of rest between now and January is the answer. I know I'm playing a few events but I think I just need to take it easy in the lead-up to them."

While 26-year-old Villegas won the PGA event today, Fiji's Vijay Singh won the war, clinching the US Tour's play-off title, and a $US10 million ($A12.0 million) bonus, for all intents and purposes.

To be overtaken, Singh would have to fail to complete 72 holes at the Tour Championship, and Villegas would have to win again.

Villegas shot 68 to become the first Colombian winner on tour, finishing at 15-under 265, two strokes ahead of American Dudley Hart (65), who birdied the final two holes.
