Della Bosca back on top as first new Minister

8/09/2008 6:19:00 PM.  | Heidi Tiltins with Richard Maxton
Belinda Neal has watched her husband John Della Bosca sworn in as the first new Minister in Nathan Rees's revamped Cabinet, charged with saving NSW Labor.

Premier Nathan Rees and his new team were all smiles today, joining their families for a low-key swearing-in ceremony at Government House.

It appeared to be the first joy after a week of turmoil for Labor, losing several high profile MPs including Morris Iemma and John Watkins last week.

John Della Bosca was sworn in as Health Minister, joined by Eric Roozendaal as Treasurer, David Campbell as Transport Minster and Joe Tripodi as Finance Minister.

They will make up the core of the new Cabinet, with the job of picking up the slack in the areas where the state is lagging most.

Mr Rees says his new cabinet will be briefed by Treasury tomorrow, while most of his ministers have already been in briefed by their new Department bosses.

"We start today, this is a new team, a fundamentally different team with lots of different skills...We will rebuild credibility in this administration."

The 23 Ministers in the Cabinet all admit there will be challenges ahead but insist this is the team to take them to the next election.

It looks like the mafia is still in state parliament. I am sure they will make us an offer that we cannot refuse. Thats till 2012, then the idiots in NSW will vote them in again.

Just as well there were no convictions 'ay' or none of the above would be possible, maybe someone had some foresight into these happenings or is it just coincidental
