Struggling mortgage holders in Western Sydney will be given a chance to sort through their problems at an open forum today.
It's hoped the forum at Rooty Hill will help reduce a recent spike in mortgage stress.
Legal Aid Chief Executive Alan Kirkland says the worst mistake people commonly make is to do nothing.
“If you think you’re in trouble the worst thing you can do is to stop making payments.”
“The best thing you can do is to get advice early,” he said.
“Always try to continue to make some level of payment, even if that means negotiating a lower level of repayment with your lender.”
