Ousted Liberal leader Brendan Nelson says he holds no malice towards Malcolm Turnbull after he wrested the leadership this morning in a tight partyroom vote.

At times emotional, Dr Nelson has wished Mr Turnbull all the best and says there will be no more leadership rumblings, despite the close result.

“I congratulate Malcolm Turnbull on his election to the leadership of the parliamentary Liberal Party, and obviously the Opposition of Australia,” he said.

“There is absolutely no question that I will do everything I possibly can to support a change of government in 2010 and to support Malcolm Turnbull becoming Australia’s next Prime Minister.”

Mr Nelson will not, however, be accepting a frontbench position, despite the offer being extended by Mr Turnbull.

Dr Nelson, thank you. You have done an excellent job as leader. You gave conservatives a feeling of hope after the devastation of 2007's election.

So will I resist the temptation to say that I told you so? Ooops, that just slipped out. Turnbull should make a great Liberal leader, he fits right in with their philosophy that the people who own the country should run the country. Luckily the majority of voters see him as a rich smug upper class twit. And now, of course, we test the old theory that the term "merchant banker" is in fact rhyming slang.

Mick, how in the hell can you discredit some one for doing well for them selves? You are the goose that loves to get your biased rants out to the General Public. Is every one who works hard and becomes wealthy an upperclass twit. No point in having a point based on jealousy because most people with half a brain can see it for what it really is

So Happy Balls, you seem to be saying that all hope is now gone for the conservatives. Well that is no surprise, we new that a tear ago, Nelson didn't give you hope, he gave you false hope. Well, like they say, Live and Learn, unless you are a Liberal supporter, and you just live and make the same mistakes again, and again, and again.............

I expect people could say Mr Rudd and his wife rip off their workers too Mick, ooops they tried to make out they made a mistake didnt they, oh and then forgot to fix it, ohhh and that bad workchoices policy helped them...tsk tsk tsk.... Or maybe, Mr Rudd and his wife own the country with Mr Turnbull and his wife, they all have multi millions. Good lawwwwwwd, grow up. If you worried as much about your country as you do the opposition, you might ask an important question of your leader sometime.

Where are ya Bolts ? Looks like it was time.Yet again your political nous is discredited. Can't wait to see if this pretender rates above 16%.He probably will but can he hold off Costello. There today was Costello at the Press Club waxing lyrical about how Aust owes him a debt .More weasal words, more gibber as he attempted to rewrite history and dump on Howard.Such loyalty is to be admired by those who believe he is the messiah.Roll on 18mths so we can put this gibberrer out his misery.

Another stunning piece of oratory from Admiral Nelson, Turnbull is now apparently the leader of the 'Opposition of Australia'. Probably as accurate a description of the Federal Liberal Party as we are likely to get. What really warms my heart though is that, in additon to the 41 members of the 'anyone but Turnbull' faction of the Libs, there was one deeply agitated and frustrated person who didn't have a vote. The Rodent himself.

Oh dear, the Liberals should have picked a better leader than this bloke - you don't join the Liberal Party to be liberal, and this new leader's social stance means has the potential to end up like Malcolm Fraser, who at this point really should just join the Socialist Alliance and be done with it! Oh well, any Lib is better than no Lib at all, and I'll just keep giving my first preference to One Nation and/or the Christian Democrats. Hope for another change soon though - WILSON TUCKEY FOR PM!
