Harbour Bridge tolls to go cashless

17/09/2008 11:27:00 AM.  | Heidi Tiltins
Drivers using the Sydney Harbour Bridge will need to have an e-tag from next January with the iconic structure going cashless.

160,000 motorists use the Harbour Bridge each and everyday, with 90 per cent of them paying the three dollar toll electronically.

But from January 31 next year, everyone will need an e-tag to cross the bridge, with the toll booths being converted.

NSW Premier Nathan Rees says the change will go a long way to reducing peak hour congestion, with motorists no longer stopping to hand over coins, or fumbling for change in the car.
