Bayliss still waiting as Haga sweeps Superbike wins

22/09/2008 6:28:00 AM.  | AAP
Australian Troy Bayliss will have to wait at least one more round to clinch the World Superbike title after Noriyuki Haga of Japan swept both races today.

Riding a Yamaha, Haga won the first race in 39 minutes, 25.030 seconds, with Italy's Max Biaggi second, 0.129 seconds behind. Australia's Troy Corser was third, 0.535 back.

Bayliss finished sixth in the opening race, then dropped to 16th in the afternoon competition.

Bayliss takes a 79-point lead over Corser into the next round in Magny Cours, France, in two weeks. The season ends Portimao, Portugal, on November 2.

Haga moved up to third overall, 89 points behind Bayliss, after winning the second race in 39 minutes, 10.265 seconds. Italy's Michel Fabrizio was second, 1.507 seconds behind, and Corser was third again, 2.268 back.

Starting from pole, Bayliss duelled with Haga for the lead in the second race before dropping back in the final laps and briefly going off track.
