The Australian Greens have attacked Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's plan to talk up the future of clean coal at the United Nations this week.
Mr Rudd, in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, intends telling other nations about Australia's push for burying under ground pollution from coal-fired power stations.
Greens climate change spokeswoman Christine Milne has accused Mr Rudd of letting down the environment for the sake of the coal industry.
"For all those people who when they voted for Kevin Rudd thought they were going to get some leadership on climate change, what they are going to get is a push for a global coal pact, rather than deep cuts and moving to the low-carbon economy," she told reporters.
The coal industry was pushing for a good deal out of global climate-change talks later this year, Senator Milne said.
Last week, Mr Rudd announced a new $100 million institute would be built to work on clean coal, also called carbon capture and storage.
The Greens want Mr Rudd to focus on renewable energy - which does not generate emissions at all - rather than coal.
