Look who's homesick: Sonny Bill wants to come back

24/09/2008 8:11:00 AM.  | Dominic Brock | rugbyleaguelive.com
Sonny Bill Williams is reportedly homesick and wants to return to the NRL, after being unhappy with his treatment by his new club Toulon.

Williams – who sensationally walked out on the Bulldogs this season to join French rugby union – has been put under pressure to perform by Toulon president Mourad Boughellal.

News Ltd reports that Williams – currently out of action with a leg injury – is not enjoying life in France and that his representatives have spoken to a Bulldogs official about the possibility of a return to the club.

The NRL has banned Williams from playing for another rugby league club until 2013 – the year his broken contract with the Bulldogs was set to run out.

Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg has heard the rumours surrounding the star player, and says Williams could only play for the Canterbury club if he is to make a return to the NRL.

If the Bulldogs want him, that is.

"I have heard the rumours and I'm not surprised," Greenberg told News.

"Sonny Bill made his choice a couple of months ago. The club has moved on since then.

"It's common knowledge he can't play in the NRL with any other club than us prior to 2013."

Meanwhile there are suggestions Toulon coach and former All Black Tana Umaga – one of the main reasons for Williams's decision to join the club – could be axed at the end of the season to be replaced by former Wallabies coach John Connolly.

Now take note of HOW quick Gallop goes running to him! Greenburg has already put his 2 bits in " can only play for cant." What a farce this game is becoming! Lee w. Why should ANYONE of us pick up the TAB for this wanker via the DOLE? Typical of " Idiot I have it all, dont know what to do" attitude of spoilt children today!. Toulouse should kick him out, NRL should stand by the " He wont play again", line from Moron Gallop. Let him sit about whittling his small fortune away, then he'll learn .

Well by rights if the Bulldogs don't want him, then he should be free to play for any club. Can't have it both ways really. But it's something you would expect from the administration of the NRL. It smells of Kenneth Arthurson's days in charge.

Is there any truth in the story going around, that $BW found out there is going to be live boxing on TenHD soon and he wants to get involved. Mundine is in his ear again it sounds like. Give him 12 months and he will be fighting broken down former boxers who have been retired for years, the same way Mundine started his career.
