Police will today seek a court order to interview a man considered the main suspect in the fatal shooting of Terence and Christine Hodson.
Rodney Charles Collins, aged 63, is a remand inmate at Barwon Prison over the murders of Ray and Dorothy Abbey who were shot in the back of the head in their West Heidelberg home in July 1987.
Mr Collins will be interviewed by detectives over an armed robbery and attempted murder in a Coburg meatworks 21 years ago.
The Age newspaper reports Collins, also known as Rodney Earle, is a well-known figure in Melbourne's underworld.
He's suspected by police of shooting police informer Terence Hodson and his wife Christine in their Kew home in May 2004.
Police allege there are strong similarities between the Hodson and Abbey killings, and their application is due to be heard this morning in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
