Rees heckled by protesters, questioned about priorities

29/09/2008 2:00:00 PM.  | Heidi Tiltins
NSW Premier Nathan Rees has been heckled by protesters, as he officially announced a new V8 Supercar event for Sydney Olympic Park.

Sydney will host an annual V8 Supercar race from December 2009 attracting around 100,000 fans to Sydney Olympic Park – 15,000 of those from interstate and overseas.

But the decision hasn’t been entirely welcomed, a group of about 10 noisy protesters heckled Premier Rees as he made the officials announcement.

Protesters, made up of resident groups and neighbouring councils are demanding the event be relocated to Eastern Creek instead, citing noise and environmental concerns.

Around 140 trees from around the circuit are being pulled out.

Premier Rees has also addressed concerns about his priorities – the state faces a massive budget deficit – he says the decision had to be made now to avoid losing the event to another state.

Mr Rees a man of your intelligence ought to realize your state is broke and you should not be spending this money on such an activity especially when you have a site already. Each of the trees you tear out at Homebush will be another cross for labor to bear.

This sounds a little like the premier of Vic's stand each year as he and Walker defend the Grand Prix in Melbourne...doenst do the Albert Park residents any good protesting, they still pulled up tree's and fill their streets with fuel fumes and noise...not to mention it runs at a loss. The Vic taxpayers are left with a multi million dollar bill each year, even thought they are subjected to the same speil each year, " it will bring in thousands from other states etc, spending money".blah blah blah
