Dog found 'deliberately set on fire'

1/10/2008 6:14:00 AM.  | Laura Tunstall

There has been another horrific case of animal cruelty in Sydney's west with the discovery of a dog set on fire.

RSPCA officers are sickened by this latest attack - the second case of animal cruelty in just a day.

A passer-by at Knight Park in Yennora found the male terrier cross and took it to a local vet.

He had severe burns and had to be put down - it's believed the animal was deliberately set on fire.

It comes after a female cattle-dog cross was discovered hanging from a tree in the RAAF Memorial Park at Mt Druitt.

The dog was hung by its leash - and it's estimated it had been there for a couple of days.

The RSPCA says they can't tell if the animal was dead before being strung up but it had no other signs of injuries.

RSPCA Inspector Slade Macklin says they're determined to catch those responsible.

“I’d look forward to the… harsh penalty to come down. You’d be looking at, under the new crime act about five years… five years behind bars.”

Find the culprit, the put it down and it's relatives for three generations either way so as to remove this from the human gene pool.

Thats a bit harsh isn't it? I mean you wouldn't like it if you were put down just because your parents or grandparents did something bad, would you? Plus not everyone is the same. Yea sure the people involved in it should be punished servely, but they shouldn't have to punish the rest of their generation. I mean, if you kill the descendents of the murderer, doesn't that mean you are as evil as they are? murdering innocent people.

So many evil people are said to act like "animals", but animals are usually decent with each other and mostly, except for some feral animals, kill for food. Animals will defend themselves and don't want to die! The people who did this are not acting like "animals" but are sub-human. The Christian teaching of "being made in the Image of God" is easily proved false! Those caught should be eradicated from society and hanged.

SMH!!! I read this & cried so much at work, how can someone do something so cruel to something so innocent? are these ppl that bored that they really need to do this to these helpless animals? i spent 10,000.00 getting my cat better so when i see stuff like this it makes me sick & sad, I have a beautiful Jack Russell Cross & she is my whole world, ppl need to be more protective of there animals, they can't protect themselves thats all part of being an owner, whoever this belonged to i am sorry.

No wonder Sydney's west has a bad name. It makes one wonder what makes these particular vermin think like that I am sure as I have stated before "like father like son like mother like daughter". If the hat fits you wear it.

People who are capable of such horrific acts of cruelty on animals usually have psychopathic tendencies and are a danger to our society. I hope the police catch them soon and they are very harshly dealt with by the courts and taken out of mainstream society.

Cruelty to animals often denotes cruelty to humans in the future, if they are not already doing so. My main frustration is the RSPCA and Australian Police and so called justice system -when are they really going to care about sentient beings that have no say over their own lives? When will people realise that ALL animals companion and farm animals and wild ones have a RIGHT to live without being harmed. It's horrifying to see these cruel acts, but these acts happen to farm animals daily.
