NSW opposition promising solar energy buyback scheme

The NSW Opposition has made a new climate change policy announcement promising a buy back scheme for homes which install solar panels.

It costs $12,000 to install solar panels on a house, and according to Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell that cost could be paid off in 10 years under his renewable energy buyback scheme.

Households and businesses with panels will receive money for power they produce, which gets fed back into the grid.

If 5,000 households take advantage of the scheme, it’ll be the equivalent greenhouse gas reduction of taking more than 16,000 cars off the road.

Mr O’Farrell says the scheme has proved successful elsewhere.

“The sort of scheme operating in Victoria and South Australia could assist a homebuyer payback the price of a solar power system for their home within 10 years.

“It’s a great initiative, it’s a great way to reward good behaviour, it’s a great way to send a green signal to the entire community…”

Mr O’Farrell says he’ll implement the scheme immediately if elected in 2011.

I'm not one of those climate cultists but I believe every new home should have a solar roof and in time every home in NSW can be a mini power station. The idea is only flawed in that big business would seem to oppose the thought of the small man having so much power!

In this day and age, all we hear is doom and gloom coming from the N.S.W. Government, who, through their own malpractices have wreaked havoc upon N.S.W. leaving behind an empty well of prosperity. The current Rees Government appears to be obsessesed with Motor racing at the moment, not thinking towards the future. In this day and age, Climate Change is the newest religion since Christianity, which ultimately means cleaning up our planet for future generations and creating a healthy environment in which to live. there is nothing wrong with that. With practical application it can be achievable, in the right hands, away from the scaremongering Green Prophets of Doom. Mr. Barry O'Farrell, Leader of the Opposition, has devised such a scheme that is both practical and cost productive. He has announced that her intends to introduce a Buy-Back Scheme for homes which install solar panels. This would be in the vicinity of $12,000 per home and could be paid off in 10 years under his R

This is only good for people with lots of money. Its very expensive. You still have to cough up several thousand dollars to get it installed and it takes 10 years to break even. Whats the point when single income families with 2 or more kids can barely afford the supermarket bills, let alone a mortgage, a car and all the other expenses that goes with having a family. Single income families should be taxed less because of all the extra costs of raising a family.
