Police arrest man after six hour seige

1/10/2008 6:43:00 PM.  | Heidi Tiltins
Police have arrested a man at the centre of a six hour siege at Lewisham in Sydney's Inner West.

The man emerged from a home in Victoria Street just after 6pm. He was quickly surrounded by heavily armed police and tackled to the ground.

The ordeal started just after midday, when police were called via triple-0.

While it is still unclear what sparked the standoff, negotiators spent the afternoon outside the home.

The man was taken away in a police van, while officers combed the house to ensure no-one else was inside.
