There's been a breakthough in the search for the attackers of an Irish tourist, bashed at a pub at Coogee and left in a coma.
David Keohane, a 29-year-old Irish tourist, has been in a coma ever since he was knocked to the ground and bashed outside Coogee Bay Hotel almost two months ago.
Tonight police have charged a 20-year-old Bankstown man over the attack.
Eastern Beaches Police arrested the man at Bankstown Police Station around 3.30pm Wednesday.
Police then searched a house in Meredith Street, Bankstown where detectives seized several items.
The man was subsequently charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery with wounding.
He has been refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow.
Eastern Beaches Acting Commander, Superintendent Paul Pisanos, was very pleased with the police effort which resulted in the arrest.
“I commend the police who have worked tirelessly under difficult circumstances during this investigation.
"Inquiries into the alleged assault continue and we have not ruled out making further arrests,” Superintendent Pisanos said.
The man's 19-year-old girlfriend has also been charged with hindering police and concealing the offence.
Mr Keohane was found unconscious after suffering serious head injuries on Kidman Street in Coogee around 3am on Saturday 9 August.
He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital where he remained in a coma until last month his family flew to australia to be by his side before flying him home to Ireland, still unconscious, in a specially fitted plane.
