Queenslander Teale Jakubenko is next to be chopped from Australian Idol according to Online Bookmakers, although there are others who could easily dip their toes into the eviction pond.
Both Sportingbet Australia and Lasseters Sportsbook have tipped the 22-year-old as favourite to go at $3.50, especially given his narrow escape on Monday night.
“He has been in the bottom two a couple of times now and he will need to pull out a big performance to stay alive,” said Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan.
“Our punters are already waving him goodbye.”
But others are also in the firing line with Melbourne teacher Thanh Bui ($4.00), blonde bombshell Sophie Paterson ($5.50) and rock loving country bloke Luke Dickens ($6.50) all in the firing line.
Bondi-based musician Wes Carr remains favourite to win the show at $2.50 but is getting some stiff competition from Mark Spano and Chrislyn Hamilton
“Wes Carr is clearly the one to beat and the punters can’t get enough of him, but there are some other contenders who are improving every week,” said Sullivan.
“Mark Spano ($5.50) and Chrislyn Hamilton ($5.00) get better with every performance and continuous improvement sometimes counts for as much as raw talent in Australian Idol,” he said.
Bookmakers are said to be having trouble however given how the even the Idol field is this year.
“This season has been one of the closest in recent memory,” says Lasseters’ Gerard Daffy.
“Framing the elimination market has become a nightmare for our entertainment analysts.”
In other Idol news Monday night’s teenage eliminee Tom Williams has told media his departure came just in the nick of time because he was about to spit the dummy and leave the show of his own accord.
“I don’t know how much more criticism I could have copped before I cracked,” he said.
