NSW cops forced to unholster taser, one day after rollout

Police have utilised their new tasers just one day after they were rolled out across NSW.

Officers on the Central Coast were this morning confronted by a man threatening self harm with a knife - they pulled out the taser but didn't activate it.

The threat was enough to subdue the man.

Assistant Commissioner Catherine Burn says officers are well trained in their use.

"The taser was pulled out, the person complied immediately," she said.

"The video and audio footage has been reviewed and the use of the taser was entirely appropriate under the circumstances."

The tasers issued to NSW police officers are equipped with a camera in the barrel, which activates when the safety catch is disengaged.
