Man stabbed in buttock in gang attack

5/10/2008 12:15:00 PM.  |
Police are hunting a gang of Asians over an unprovoked stabbing attack on a man in Sydney's west.

The 25-year-old victim and his brother were set upon by eight men outside a shop in Regents Park about 10.30pm (AEST) on Saturday night.

Police say the brothers were standing near their truck in Amy St when they were attacked.

The 25-year-old was struck in the face as he tried to run away, but the gang caught him and stabbed him in the buttock before running away.

The victim was taken to Auburn Hospital and will undergo surgery on Saturday.

His brother was not hurt.

Police say the men they are looking for are all of Asian appearance.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Australian Journalists Association code of ethics, point 2 states that journalists commit themselves to, ' not place unnecessary emphasis on personal characteristics, including race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, family relationships, religious belief, or physical or intellectual disability.' Point one says that journalists should not to give 'distorting emphasis'. I fail to see how the ethnicity of the offenders is relevant. This simply feeds the racists.

yes i was going to say Darren, this week we have had people going on about Muslims, and their hatred of them. people of middle eastern appearance. now we will have the Asian haters come out of the wood work. It doesn't say what race the victims were? they could be Asian as well. sometimes before you start spewing forth your hateful thoughts you need to think of the bigger picture.
