Australia's Robert Allenby lost a golden chance to secure his first US PGA Tour win in seven years today.
A four-time winner on the tour, Allenby led by two shots on the back nine but faltered at the death as young American Dustin Johnson snatched victory in the Turning Stone Resort Championship at Verona, New York.
Allenby left his uphill four-metre birdie putt on the last hole a few centimetres short.
Playing alongside Allenby, Johnson holed his two-metre putt for birdie and a one-stroke victory from the Australian.
Johnson shot a closing three-under 69 to win at nine-under 279 while Allenby had a 70.
Fellow Australian Mat Goggin and Steve Allan both shot 69s to be in a seven-way tie for third, one stroke behind Allenby.
Allenby has not won on the US tour since the Pennsylvania Classic, the second of two wins in 2001.
