Scientology to save Amy Winehouse?

6/10/2008 7:25:00 AM.  | LIVENEWS.com.au
Drug-riddled singer Amy Winehouse is reportedly considering a switch to controversial religion scientology in a bid to get her life back on the right track.

The Church Of Scientology, which counts movie stars Tom Cruise and John Travolta and music figures such as Beck amongst its devotees, contacted Winehouse with the offer of ending her drugs habit, Britain’s Sunday Mirror reported.

“She had a call from the celebrity branch of the Church Of Scientology. She thinks they got her number through one of the American music producers who worked on her Back to Black album,” a source was quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“They told her they wanted to help her beat drugs and could tailor-make a programme so she wouldnt have to go to a residential center.

“She liked that idea because her husband Blake is out of prison soon and wouldn’t want to be away from him when he’s finally freed.”

Kirsty Alley? The whale-sized actress? It's a pity scientology can't help her. Of course, when they put her on the e-meter lie-detector and asked her personal questions they recorded her answers in a big fat dossier. You won't catch her dissing scientology if she's got any sense.

Sorry, Kevin. The article didn't mention even Narconon. Are you saying that this scam therapy narcon (proven worthless - look it up) is closely to the scam religion scientology (basically a manipulative cult - look it up)? You wouldn't be linked to these scams, would you? Narconon is a front and recruiting arm for scientology. The so called therapy is worse than useless. Their statistics are completely made up. It's been exposes as a con, but still they run these promos.

Naltrexone( spelling?) is apparently a workable drug to combat Addiction. Well an Aussie doctor in WA trialled it and got a system worked out that was proving to work. he spent a great fortune of HIS money in getting it right. Too Bad the DOCTORS? in the big SYDNEY hospitals ridiculled it out of backing because it was too clever for them to believe. Perhaps they get a kickback from Methadone companies??

I was a drug addict for 12 years. It was a desperate period of my life that fortunately came to an end when I completed the Narconon program. It was a fantastic experience. It has now been 9 years since I graduated the program. ... the most important thing I gained is self confidence and the trust of my family and my colleagues. ...I never thought I could recover these values. Now I have my own family--a beautiful wife and child--a treasure that I’m very proud of. R.E. Graduate 1999

I know I'm coming late to the party, but Mr. Owen's contribution (the first reply) is a pathetic joke. Only someone working Public Relations for Scientology would put a trademark after Narconon in a blog comment - when, as pointed out before, it's not even mentioned in the post you're responding to. Ms. Winehouse would do herself more medical good eating a teaspoon of baking soda each day (or doing nothing at all, for that matter) than she would participating in the Narconon program.

You realize all you cynics out there will feel like absolute muppets if she does kick the habit on the Narconon program. I'm continually amazed how people can think something like this could go through such scrutiny and last all these years if it was such a complete sham. How do you explain all the people saying how much it has helped them?
