There are fears Chinese vegetables sold in Australia could be contaminated with melamine, the chemical which has poisoned more than 50,000 babies in China.
Chinese products imported into Australia include fresh garlic and peas, frozen mixed vegetables, canned mushrooms and tomato paste.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand says investigators are looking into the reports, but haven't found any evidence yet they're unsafe.
Lydia Buchtmann, from Food Standards Australia says there's no reason for Australian's to be concerned.
“There’s not a lot of Chinese fresh product that comes in – some garlic, for example, there’s also some dried mushrooms… frozen vegetables.”
“Certainly people shouldn’t be concerned at the moment – we’re doing a safety assessment - it could just be a naturally occurring, low level residue of melamine.”
