Today Tonight host Anna Coren has announced she will leave the long running Current Affairs program this Friday – citing itchy feet and a need to expand as her reasons to accept an offer at CNN Hong Kong.
Coren confirmed her replacement will be former Seven sports reporter Matthew White, who takes over the TT chair next Monday.
Talking to 2GB’s Ray Hadley, Coren said her reasons to leave the show were many and varied – but that her passion for international reporting was driving her overseas.
“I loved traveling round the world and reporting on big stories and I guess I still have the itch. And that’s something that I want to do.”
“I am 32, but family is something that I one day want to have and I think if you want to get out there and see more of the world then now is the time to do it.”
Coren also confirmed her position as anchoring correspondent on CNN in Hong Kong, a role she will start on the 1st of December.
The CNN position is part of a 3 year contract for Coren, who hinted that the role could act as a stepping stone to a more lucrative gig in the U.S.
Coren was jovial, and joked with Hadley, later saying that she planned to be in the media in some form or another, hopefully, for her entire career.
“I love the media – I really do. So I think if I can stay in it for as long as it will have me, then I definitely still see myself in the media in 10 years time.”
