RailCorp to be scrapped so govt can take control

8/10/2008 3:08:00 PM.  | Heidi Tiltins
We are being assured the Government will be forced to take responsibility for problems on the trains after deciding to dismantle RailCorp.

Premier Nathan Rees is taking a broom to the government owned corporation, scrapping the commercial board and removing senior managers, in a bid to pump more money into the front line.

RailCorp has been dogged for months by corruption findings and claims it’s over managed – Mr Rees even describing it as a law unto itself.

It will now report directly to the transport department, rather than taking directions from a commercial board.

Mr Rees says the change will deliver the accountability, service improvements, and performance the community expects.

But Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell says this isn't a genuine attempt to fix services.

“This is a state government that has virtually stuffed NSW because of its direct political control, including our hospitals – and that’s its solution to fixing the rail system – commuters are understandably skeptical and concerned.”

Wow. So now we go back to the times of horrible ontime running, bad safety, the unions running the place and we hold our breath until another Waterfall happens. This is a joke - Mr Rees is a Joke. You don;t need any qualifications to be a politician and yet they think they know how to run something like a rail system. Bring on the next election - vote Liberal!!!

Senior management will not be sacked. They will be employed as advisors I hear. So if they were not much goo at it before , what are they going to advise now? Runing railways is not a one off job. You build it you maintain it, you constantly improve it and build on it as the population increases. There is no use neglecting it and then magicaly improve it in a day. So, same as in health care, cut out the fat cats from the top and just start working rather then iinventing new management .
