We are being assured the Government will be forced to take responsibility for problems on the trains after deciding to dismantle RailCorp.
Premier Nathan Rees is taking a broom to the government owned corporation, scrapping the commercial board and removing senior managers, in a bid to pump more money into the front line.
RailCorp has been dogged for months by corruption findings and claims it’s over managed – Mr Rees even describing it as a law unto itself.
It will now report directly to the transport department, rather than taking directions from a commercial board.
Mr Rees says the change will deliver the accountability, service improvements, and performance the community expects.
But Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell says this isn't a genuine attempt to fix services.
“This is a state government that has virtually stuffed NSW because of its direct political control, including our hospitals – and that’s its solution to fixing the rail system – commuters are understandably skeptical and concerned.”
