Richmond have snared Port Adelaide midfielder Adam Thomson in the first official deal finalised in AFL trade week.
The Tigers have given up their third round pick - No.42 - in November's AFL draft to the Power in exchange for Thomson.
Tigers football manager Craig Cameron has told News Limited the midfielder is a good fit for the club.
“We are impressed with what we have seen of Adam and believe his skills and attributes will be a good fit at Richmond" Cameron said,
“It is worth noting that Adam has averaged 14.7 disposals this year despite only 60 per cent game time.
Coach Terry Wallace is comfortable with the acquisition, that adds more depth to the youthful Tigers midfield.
“Adam clearly fits the age criteria that we are developing and he will be a strong addition to our midfield,” Wallace said.
“I believe Richmond supporters will enjoy watching Adam play as he is a tough player who wins his own ball,” he said.
Thomson played 28 games for the Power after being selected in the 2004 AFL Draft (pick No. 11), the same draft the Tigers secured Brett Deledio (No.1) and Richard Tambling (No.4).
The inside on-baller, who failed to break into Port's midfield group, had been courted by three Victorian clubs this week but the Tigers have always been the front-runner to secure his services.
