Australian Idol’s Levi Kereama laid to rest

Levi Kereama was buried yesterday after a funeral attended by over 1000 mourners at Karawatha Chapel in Brisbane's south.

Guy Sebastian spoke at the funeral and sang a chilling rendition of Amazing Grace.

Sebastian said Kereama was his best friend from Idol after the pair competed in the first series in 2003.

"Everywhere we went everyone adored him. I love Levi," he said, adding that they had a special bond.

Sebastian wiped away tears as he walked with Kereama's brothers behind the casket.

Kereama’s girlfriend of eight years Sandy Kozso told the assembled friends and family Levi always put other people before himself.

"You only had to spend five minutes with Levi to feel like you were the most special person in the world," she said.

The star's brothers and friends sang tributes, and a slideshow of photos from his life ran to the tune of the R&B sounds that made Kereama famous.

Older brother and fellow band member Ezra said Levi had been producing a new song before his death.

"He left one verse for me to finish. I'll fill it in for you, bro," he said.

Kereama, 25, died after falling from a Brisbane high-rise at the weekend, just hours after he performed at the Park Life music festival.
