Derailed train causes transport chaos

A freight train derailment has halted passenger services between Sutherland in Sydney's south and Wollongong.

Three cars from the Pacific National train derailed near Waterfall about 3pm (AEDT), disrupting CityRail services along the Eastern Suburbs, Illawarra and south coast Lines between Sutherland and Wollongong.

A CityRail spokeswoman said a bus service was operating between Sutherland and Waterfall.

No one was injured in the derailment, and trains were expected to resume normal service from 4.30pm.
