Alaska inquiry finds Palin abused power

11/10/2008 1:13:00 PM.  | AP
Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded.

The politically charged inquiry imperils her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican presidential ticket.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials using their office for personal gain.

The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce from the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

The panel found Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making even if it was not the sole reason Monegan was dismissed. "I feel vindicated," Monegan said. "It sounds like they've validated my belief and opinions. And that tells me I'm not totally out in left field."

Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

Palin and McCain's supporters had hoped the inquiry's finding would be delayed until after the presidential election to spare her embarrassment as she campaigns for the vice-presidency.

But the panel voted to release the report, although not without dissent.

"I think there are some problems in this report," said Republican state Senator Gary Stevens, a member of the panel. "I would encourage people to be very cautious, to look at this with a jaundiced eye."

The nearly 300-page report does not recommend sanctions or a criminal investigation.

What was she? - staffy with lipstick or something!, and a bit more baggage than McCain would have wished for it would seem - and just how less than ingenuous does that make McCain whilst Sarah looks the goods of a naughty mischievous terrier been sent out to the kennel.

Just a bit of that good old down home type corruption. This gives a valuable insight into what kind of VP this creature would make, vacuous, retarded and bent. Kind of an amateurish version of the current big end of town corruption being served up by Cheney and the Shrub. Keep a close eye on who the Shrub hands out Presidential pardons to in the last days of this corrupt regime. I'm sure his daddy has already provided a list.

Bipartisan? The head of the investigation is a Democrat. Hence the report could only come out -as guilty. It is also no wonder that the report has been rushed so that it comes out before the Presidential elections. Not all Members of the so called 'bipartisan" inquiry agreed with the findings or the timing of the release.

So a bi-partisan report finds that she meddled where she shouldn't have and you will immediately dismiss it because it was chaired by a Democrat. Obviously, if a rebublician chaired it, it would have found she did no wrong and that would fine by you. She would still be corrupt, but you would be happy with a corrupted process. That a Democrat chaired MEANS that some of the truth was uncovered, which upsets you, the truth that is. You find truth disturbing which is disturbing. Ring-wing tard.

I had wondered where Ian Tembe had got to. The finding has to be one of the more bizarre political hatchet jobs that is so unnecessary when Obama is winning. The Democrats cannot control themselves .. they have ruined the world economy with their social engineering in the sub prime market and they have called for the rape and torture of Palin and now there is the release of this bogus report which isn't critical of a single decision she made.

Come now Dessie for in any bipartisan mob you're going to have someone as Chairman and yes the panel agreed to have the finding released with dissenting views but who was going to the Supreme Court attempting to block the release, and with the inquiry underway for some time, to say it has been rushed is grasping and gasping ain't it as is Happy Chappy attempting to spin that using your office for personal reasons ain't just a little corrupt and a finding that way is not critical.

Neville Simms-Bipartisan means that both Parties agree. It is not bipartisan when one Party has the final say over the other. If it was truly bipartisan there would be equal representation and if the vote is split-then its a draw.

Oh Dessie, come now, and Bipartisan is an adjective and as for "Neville Simms-Bipartisan means that both Parties agree" we'll have to agree to disagree for you can have a bipartisan committee, panel or whatever and on a hot political potatoe issue it could be guaranteed that there would not be a fully agreed finding and so in this case you have had a bipartisan panel come to a majority decision - and is that something you can have right and left lobes bipartisanally absorb?

Neville Simms-.A majority decision simply means that there were more Democrats than Republicans on the panel-led by a Democrat-so it's a white wash. The Democrats proved it by not recommending any further action because they were successful in making a political point. You will not comprehend this logic because of all the empty space between your lobes,

Russell Jones-Thanks for proving my point-if a Republican chaired it she would have been found to have done nothing wrong. If a politician is accused of doing something wrong then they should be tried by due process and not a political kangaroo court-led by a majority of the opposition party .If Sarah Plain has done something wrong why is it that the report does not recommend sanctions or a criminal investigation?-because they are happy with the political victory.-Left wing turd.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide. Strip away the politics and she breached rules regarding meddling in areas she shouldn't have. That is fact. But what are you saying? Right-wing corruption, turn a blind eye, as long as it is a right-winger that's corrupt. But left-wing corruption, hit em with a big stick. Harris, you are an idiot. Even a bipartisan committee would conclude that.

Russell Jones-There has been a fair bit of smoke around K Rudd and the Heiner affair- will you accept that he is guilty if the Liberals say that he is? There were some recent reports about his Real Estate dealings-that’s smoke-is he guilty? You are a stupid, stupid moron and you fail to understand the principles of impartiality. Take yourself around the corner and give yourself a dirty great big uppercut.

Des, settle petal. Such strident abuse simply demonstrates that you have lost the plot. Definitely a front runner for the Glenn Milne dummy spit award.
