7m tree branch lands on girl at cafe

12/10/2008 7:20:00 PM.  | AAP
A girl has been taken to hospital after a seven-metre-long tree branch fell on her and another youngster as they ate at a Melbourne cafe.

Ambulance Victoria said the two girls - one aged nine or 10, the other seven or eight - were eating with family at a table at a cafe in Yarra St, Warrandyte, around 12.30pm (AEDT) when the branch fell.

The older girl suffered back injuries and other upper body soreness.

"She was transported by ambulance to hospital with upper body injuries," Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe told AAP.

"The injuries are not life-threatening but the MICA (mobile intensive care ambulance) paramedics don't take any chances and took her to hospital."
