South Australians were last night exposed to the government’s new confrontational ad campaign, which uses real crash footage to warn against low level speeding.
The ads refers to the offence as ‘creeping’ – aimed at people who don’t think speeding at around five kilometres over the speed limit is dangerous.
The Motor Accident Commission says they make no apology for the confronting nature of the commercials, which use images and video from actual car accidents in South Australia.
"This campaign is about saving lives, it's about sending a message to people that creeping over the speed limit has enormous human and social costs," Road Safety Minister Carmel Zollo told the ABC.
Ms Zollo says road accidents are costing South Australians $3.2 million a day.
The new ads are featured on television, radio, internet, road signs and bus shelter posters.
