Object inside crocodile not verified as Booker's ring

Police cannot confirm reports that an object found inside a crocodile captured in far north Queensland is a wedding ring which may belong to a missing holidaymaker.

Vietnam veteran Arthur Booker, from Logan, south of Brisbane, has not been seen since he went to check a crab pot on the Endeavour River near Cooktown on September 30.

Wildlife authorities have examined the stomach contents of three crocodiles captured on the river last week - a 4.3m animal weighing about half a tonne and two smaller crocodiles 3.5m and 2.6m long.

ABC Television last night reported that X-rays of the largest crocodile showed a wedding band inside its stomach.

But police today said this report could not be verified.

"A circular shaped object X-rayed inside one of the crocodiles captured from the Endeavour River cannot be verified as being a wedding band, as reported by some media outlets," a spokesman said.

"Material was found inside two of the crocodiles trapped last week and media will be advised of the results of forensic and further testing when completed and confirmed."

The only traces of 62-year-old Mr Booker found on the river were his wristwatch and a pair of sandals.
