Kick-off for the Socceroos' World Cup qualifier against Qatar in Brisbane has been delayed for at least half an hour after violent storms and torrential rain swept Suncorp Stadium tonight.
The match was supposed to start at 8.30pm (AEDT), but Football Federation Australia confirmed there would be a delay to allow the pitch to dry and thunderstorms to pass.
Large amounts of water have pooled on several parts of the Suncorp Stadium pitch after wild storms in the hour prior to the scheduled kick-off.
It is expected officials will inspect the pitch again at 9pm (AEDT).
The Socceroos have given Craig Moore an immediate return to the starting line-up following his short-lived retirement, and will play two strikers against the Q Qataris.
Moore will partner Lucas Neill in central defence, while Josh Kennedy and Scott McDonald will team up front for Australia's top-of-the-table Group A clash.
Neill has been named captain.
Coach Pim Verbeek has also included Sheffield United's David Carney on the left side of midfield in front of Scott Chipperfield.
The Socceroos are currently second in Group A behind the Qataris, who have played one more match than Australia.
