Wall Street sequel planned to reflect turbulent times

In 1987 we were told by Gordon Gecko in Wall Street that “Greed is good”. But in 2008, a planned sequel to the iconic film, using the backdrop of the ongoing global financial crisis, could see the fruits of Gecko’s financial ruthlessness.

20th Century Fox has given the go ahead for the sequel, set to take place 20 years after the insatiable Gordon Gecko, portrayed by Michael Douglas, was sent to prison for insider trading.

Douglas however, has not been formally signed on for the sequel.

The follow up is reportedly being developed by Allan Loeb, the creator of card-shark drama 21 starring Kevin Spacey – and considering the punting parallels between casino gambling and stock trading, Loeb seems like a glove fit.

Charlie Sheen, who portrayed the gullible Bud Fox, who ends up exploited by Gecko, and original director Oliver Stone are not expected to return for the sequel.

Another movie about how capitalism is the root of all evil - how original. I'm with Gecko and Ayn Rand - "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good..." A lot of lessons should be learned from this recession. Instead, our government is going to run the country and the constitution further into the ground. But, as long as they get reelected, who cares? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/15/AR2008101503166.html

No Oliver Stone? No Gordon Gecko? No Bud Fox? What's the point, why call it a sequel? Instead, why not tell a true story? Although horrible, there is so much storytelling richness throughout this financial crisis. There are real-life heroes and villains out there that should have there story told. It's sad to see some jokers in Hollywood choose, yet again, to make cinematic vomit.

here here dj there is no wall street 2 without charlie sheen, martin sheen and oliver stone. some things (including the morals they expound upon) should be left alone as the timeless masterpieces that they are. and blue horseshoe loves annacot steel.
