Brett Stewart out of World Cup

16/10/2008 12:51:00 PM.  | Dominic Brock
Sea Eagles fullback Brett Stewart is the latest casualty from Australia's World Cup campaign, with the "shattered" Manly fullback reportedly withdrawing from the squad with a shoulder injury.

Stewart had a cortisone injection for the injury yesterday, and has now followed Justin Hodges out of the Australian squad due to injury according to News Ltd reports.

Selectors are set to name a replacement for Hodges today, and are also expected to name Stewart's replacement - likely to be Brisbane's Karmichael Hunt.

Matt Cooper has been ruled out as a possible replacement for Hodges because of a groin injury, while other outside backs Jarryd Hayne and Michael Jennings have already committed to Fiji and Tonga, respectively, for this month's World Cup.

Slater was already picked. Should be first choice fullback too. Out played Stewart in the Origin series.

Billy Slater came off the bench at state of origin with Hunt starting, and dominating from the back (in every other game than #1, the 5/8 experiment didn't work). but you were correct with your other statement... BOTH QLD fullbacks outplayed Stewart...
