Hundreds attend funeral for Sydney Harbour boat crash victim

6/05/2008 10:00:00 AM.  | Gil Taylor
Hundreds of mourners have turned out for the funeral of one of the victims of the Sydney Harbour boat crash.

Stacey Wright should be celebrating her 22nd birthday this week, but instead she is being remembered at St John Vianney's Catholic Church in Fairy Meadow, just outside Wollongong.

Stacey was one of six people killed when a small runabout carrying 14 people collided with a fishing trawler near Bradley’s Head last Thursday morning.

Many staff and customers of the Unity Hall hotel back in Sydney where Ms Wright worked are believed to be among the mourners.

Many who have already shed tears swapped stories about Stacey and the short life she had.

Nothing has been said to change my mind that the current laws are enforceable, but that the harbor needs to be a safer place.

It looks safe enough to me. It's not as if a slew of people are dying in it daily. This is going to happen from time to time. It's not necessary to run amok making new rules everytime a miniscule mishap manifests itself.
