Police are searching for a car involved in a collision with 50 cyclists including at least one Olympian, in southern Sydney.

Fairfax says former Australian team racer Kate Nichols and Olympic cyclist Ben Kersten were involved.

Nichols was one of five Australian team members injured in a horrific road crash in Germany which killed team member Amy Gillett in 2005.

A number of riders suffered minor cuts and abrasions, one had to be taken to hospital and ambulance officers treated the others on the scene.

One of the cyclists says the driver came up close and started worrying the riders at the back, then accelerated in front of the pack and slammed on his brakes.

He said riders crashed into each other and there were broken bikes, snapped wheels and people lying all over the road.

Road rage. Everyone is exposed to it, pedestrians, other drivers and bikers. If the minor things get tolerated, the big things become big problems.

Even in your car if you stick to the speed limit, whether 40 through a school zone, 60 , 80 or 110Kmh there will be many motorists tailgating you, abusing & getting violent because they feel that you are holding them up.Compound this by actually slowing things up further is a recipe for what happened today. If the cyclists could not anticipate this then they are part of the problem. No doubt these cyclists when in their cars are probably just as bad.

Get the headline right ! It should read 50 Cyclists Collide With Sydney Car. Have heard the interviews on Ray Hadley's program and it's quite evidently the cyclists fault. An LPG backfire will cause a vehicle to stall and lose all control over power steering and power assisted brakes making it difficult bringing to a safe stop. I know this because I've driven a duel fuel taxi in Sydney for the past 24 years. In my experience the larger the group of cyclists, the more militant they are.
