A toddler is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after possibly being bitten by a brown snake in Sydney's southwest.
Ambulance officers were called to a home in Tahmoor about 2pm (AEST) today after it was suspected the two-year-old boy was bitten by a snake.
He was taken to nearby Campbelltown Hospital, but it was yet to be confirmed if he was bitten by a brown snake, an ambulance spokeswoman said.
"It's not confirmed that it is a snakebite and the child is not necessarily showing symptoms of a snakebite, but just to be sure ... there was a snake near the child," she said.
"He may not have been bitten at all."
Ambulance officers were now preparing to transfer him to Westmead Children's Hospital.
A spokeswoman for Campbelltown Hospital said the toddler was in a serious but stable condition, but would not confirm whether he had been bitten by a snake.
