Man to face court over 50 bike pile up

13/05/2008 7:26:00 AM.  | Gil Taylor
A man has been charged over last week’s mass cyclist crash near Mascot.

A 34-year-old Claymore man has been charged with failing to stop after the cyclist pile up on Southern Cross Drive last Thursday morning.

The group of bike riders including Olympian Ben Kersten, claim the driver of a Ford Falcon sped past them and then jammed on its brakes, causing the cyclists to collide with each other.

It’s alleged the driver failed to give particulars, he appears in Waverley local court on the failing to stop charge next month.

His car has already been examined in relation to the incident, investigations are continuing.

And still I think the government needs to work to improve the roads for bike riders too.

Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is heartless ... and criminal.

Next time ring the police and see what they tell you when there's no one hurt and there's no damage over $1000 dollars?? - was the driver approached by an angry mob and intimidated????? what would you do in those circumstances???

Tom *, I can't wait the next time I overtake 50 cyclists riding 2-abreast in anger at light traffic at 0630am in the morning near the airport, get in front of them, brake to a halt deliberately, so that they have have no time to brake and crash into the back of my car, break into laughter with my female friend, leave the scene of an accident without lending a hand, call up a radio station to deny I've done anything wrong, argue with the victim and then go missing ....

Wilfred: Were you there?? If the person has been served with a court order - is he missing?? - by the way if you were involved in something so stupid as this no one would care and you would not be given the time of the day and the only reason this has is because the media had it running all day last week - get over it! Wasn't there some bike mishap somewhere today - did you see it? - what happens in that case when they all run into each other - who's at fault then?accidents happen!
