Baby found dead in shopping bag

A baby has been found dead in a shopping bag at a bus stop in northern Victoria.

A local resident found the body of the baby, thought to have been aged between three and six months, about 5.30pm (AEST) today at Grahamvale, near Shepparton.

But police believe the bag had been at the bus stop since 7.45am (AEST) today.

Police have not revealed the baby's sex at this stage.

Homicide detectives are investigating the find, at the intersection of Ford and Mouser roads at Grahamvale, 180km north of Melbourne.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said it is not clear whether the baby died of natural causes or if a crime had been committed.

"Police are concerned for the welfare of the parents and would urge the mother or father of the child to come forward to help establish the circumstances surrounding what has taken place," she said.

It appears there are laws for everything in this Country except for the welfare of babies and children. The sooner they bring in a gaol sentence for the parents irrespective of who they are or who their contacts are that are able to get them out of being charged there may be a drop in child abuse. There was a mother who puts over the story she forgot the baby was left in the car whileshe went to work which is absolute rubbish. No matter what your problems are you never forget a child .

omg im getting tired of hearing about babbies dieing because of new mothers dont know how to get help!im a mother myself and i would never think of killing my baby or babys its time for the goverment to get up and see whats happeing all these lil babbies dieing is just sick mothers out there doing this should be ashamed and jailed for life it should never happen somethink should be done before it gets worse and we loose more babies to unfit mothers cause thats what they are to me!
