Named and shamed: Rats at McDonald's restaurant

Another eight restaurants have been added to the NSW food register, set-up to shame businesses for poor hygiene and un-safe practices.

A Central Coast McDonalds restaurant is the latest to be added to the Name and Shame list.

The list was established in the hopes that it would encourage better food safety.

The outlet on the F3 at Jilliby has been fined nearly $700, after checks revealed evidence of rats in the food handling area.

The website is already being heralded a success, with 25 thousand people logging on to check whether their local food outlets are obeying the law.

A Penrith bakery and Sydney Chinese restaurant bring to 46 the number of restaurants now on the register.

NSW Primary Industries Minister Ian MacDonald says the website naming dodgy outlets has so far had 25,000 hits.

“This of course is a small percentage of restaurants in NSW, but I think it’s good for consumers to know those ones that have failed the safety test.”

People that eat 'out', face the consequences. Dont give money to the Multinationals! Stay home, save money, prepare healthy food and actually sit and communicate with family and friends!

Hayden it wouldn't matter if near the bush or in the city. Sewers provide rats with access to any place they want. having dump bins just ouside works well as a welcome mat for them too. On a personal point, itt wont ever bother myself and family, we dont eat Macca's, nothing wrong there, we just dont like the food?

"macca's," huh? We call it Mickey D's over here. But, that's ok. Yeah, I guess rat's can be gross in a restaurant. And, I have to agree they have to toe the mark and keep the premises clean. All they had to do was clean out the mess and they would never have been caught. Shouldn't be too much to ask. Come on, Macca's the world over. Keep it clean. It's not like you don't have the personnel, is it? With that whopping $6-7 per hour you pay, you can afford to have a ton of people on staff!
