Heath Ledger’s “conman” uncle exposed

7/08/2008 1:56:00 PM.  | Tim Brunero
Convicted criminal Haydn Ledger, uncle of deceased actor Heath Ledger, copped another barrage of character assassination last night on tabloid TV show A Current Affair.

The Channel Nine show, who claim to have uncovered more than 30 “victims” of the Perth businessman, ran a follow up report to an earlier investigation last night featuring at least ten people who claim to have been ripped off by Ledger.

Ledger, who was charged with receiving stolen machinery after a raid by WA police last month, was accused on the show of even using his nephew’s death as a stalling tactic to put off delivering on financial deals.

In fact Ledger is estranged from Heath Ledger’s side of the family and has not seen Heath since he was a child and was barred from attending the young actor’s funeral at the express wish of Heath’s father Kim.

Last night’s report was a follow up from a report last week where a couple told how they had handed over $55,000 to Ledger for a German machine called a “Torbo Wetblaster”. The machine has never been delivered.

When confronted last week by an all female A Current Affair camera crew Haydn Ledger refused to speak and the reporters were surrounded by a number of Ledger’s male associates.

Journalist Amanda Patterson claims she was knocked to the ground by one of the men, her camera operator Nikki also claims to have been punched in the face and stomach.

Former friends of Ledger, John and Sue Mitchell, claimed on the show the late actor’s uncle stole $20,000 from them in 2002. Ledger was convicted of stealing over the matter and given a suspended two year gaol sentence.

Meanwhile over at Today Tonight, which is locked in a bitter rivalry with A Current Affair, Ledger was declaring his innocence.
