Protestors block exits as Iemma fronts party heavyweights

7/08/2008 1:20:00 PM.  | Heidi Tiltins
Premier Morris Iemma is yet to emerge from a meeting which party bosses ordered three months after he defied ALP delegates and pressed ahead with the electricity sell-off.

Mr Iemma went into the Trades Hall on Sussex Street, shortly after 9:30 this morning to meet with the party’s admin committee over his decisions to defy the wishes of delegates at May’s state ALP conference.

Delegates voted seven votes to one against the planned electricity sell-off, with the party threatening to sanction Mr Iemma if he didn’t call it off.

Mr Iemma doesn’t believe he will be punished by the admin committee today – party president Bernie Reardon was hoping for a good and productive meeting.

Anti-power protestors have now lined the exit to the building, carrying placards and flags.

The conference in May didn't vote ALP didn't vote seven 'votes' to one - it was by a margin of seven to one, over 700 votes against and a little over 100 votes for this ill thought through proposal. Is it too much to ask that journalists get their basic facts right before adding to the myths surrounding decision making in NSW?
