In celebrity obsessed America, the worlds of politics and showbiz merge together seamlessly – and in the 2008 presidential race, candidate Barack Obama is getting more than just support from one of the hottest heartthrobs in Hollywood – George Clooney.
Clooney, whose film choices have not shied away from political commentary, has become closely connected with the Democratic front runner – becoming his unofficial advisor.
The Syriana actor is said to be helping Barack tweak his image, and engages with the presidential hopeful regularly, discussing opinions on Iraq and the Middle East.
Party insiders say the two have an “amazing affinity” and are “extremely close” and contact each other on a bi-weekly basis – by phone, email and text message.
The insiders also say that the connection could prove negative for Obama, with conservative voters frowning upon Clooney’s playboy ways.
The star once admitted he could never be involved with politics because he had “done too many drugs, slept with too many women, and been to too many parties”.
