A man who went missing after an avalanche in the Snowy Mountains early this afternoon has been confirmed dead.
Paramedic Patrick Cantwell said it's believed he was the only person not accounted for after the avalanche.
“Police have confirmed that they have found the patient.
“The patient is deceased on scene and will be removed from the site shortly.”
The avalanche seemed to have been caused by the collapse of an ice cornice.
Emergency crews, including the NSW Police Force, the NSW Ambulance Special Casualty Access Team, and an emergency helicopter, were called to Blue Lake just after 1.30 pm in the Kosciuszko National Park to find the missing man.
The South Care aero-medical and rescue helicopter had to divert to the Kosciuszko site while en-route to Perisher to pick up an injured skier from another accident.
South Care’s Wayne Evans said the copter was diverted to the avalanche site where they winched down a paramedic.
More information is to come from the coroner's report being prepared.
