The budget for NSW Premier Morris Iemma's staff has blown out by $1.5 million in the past 10 months.
The Herald reports the number of Mr Iemma's personal staff has increased from 28 to 32, with their combined wages topping $5 million dollars.
Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell said he is appalled to hear the average salary is in excess of $150,000.
"Morris Iemma deserves a gold medal in hypocrisy when firefighters, police and other critical workers can't have a pay increase but he increases his own staff and he increases their salaries," Mr O'Farrell said.
"Morris Iemma has to start putting more resources into front line services and not simply try and run New South Wales like a family company."
Teachers Federation President Maree O'Halloran said $150,000 wages are excessive, at a time when the Government is refusing to negotiate a wage rise with the unions.
"We've got people who are giving great service to the community, nurses, coaches, firefighters, all the workers in the public sector."
"The Government has said to them: you have 2.5 per cent, which is less than inflation, but we'll continue to pay ourselves and the people who work in our offices more money."
The Premier's Office has angrily denied the claims, and says the figures have been taken out of context and staff salaries have actually decreased.
