Young children sent child porn on popular music website

20/08/2008 6:26:00 AM.  | Gillian Cannon & AAP
Teenagers and young children searching and downloading the latest tunes over the Internet are being exposed to pornographic images and websites.

The popular Internet tool LimeWire is at the centre of the pornography scare.

Searching for Britney Spears and even children shows The Wiggles and HI-5 return explicit images, and links to child porn websites.

Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec, commander of the child protection and sex crimes squad, says police are seriously concerned about file-sharing programs like LimeWire and their capacity to expose children to inappropriate material.

"Police have previously received reports and conducted investigations into the receipt of this kind of material," he told News Ltd.

"We encourage parents whose children come across any form of child exploitation images, or other inappropriate material, to contact their nearest police station."

The download tool allows peer to peer sharing, making it easier to download illegally and harder to monitor files.

It follows a string of porn arrests, including a woman jailed for downloading more than 2,000 hardcore images from LimeWire.

Well perhaps they shouldn't be ILLEGALLY downloading music from Limewire. They should be using one of the many legal website like itunes.com mp3.com Mp3Rocket.com HotMp3Download.com MP3AudioStation.com etc etc etc.

I do not allow my child to download music herself. she has to ask her brother or me for it. it is the internet after all.

Sharers beware! Some Viruses are now being written/named as MP3 files too. For those on LIMEWIRE, you can set your filters to kill out MOST of the rot. There is a trash can as well, for which you can mark things as junk. This will stop rubbish re-appearing. Personally, wonder at some? Why would they have this stuff then flout it by sharing? Limewire,Emule, bearshare are All bad news. If some of you are using them I'd hope you have real tiome scanning/partial file scanning with your Anti-vir pro

Mitch omatic.... i had some 2500 ish tapes cd's stolen from a house. I dont have the finances to replace it. It seems perfectly ok for the pawn shops to resell my music why shouldn't i be able to replace what i have paid for? At least my taste in music is from some yrs ago...alot of what i lost i cant find in the places you listed. Seems big bussiness gets protection while we dont. So what would you do? Sit back and NOT try to get it back? Not justifying just asking?
