Dellacqua, Stosur get tough US Open draws

22/08/2008 8:58:00 AM.  | AAP
Casey Dellacqua has been given few favours in the women's draw for US Open after being slated to meet world No.1 Ana Ivanovic in the second round.

World No.44 Dellacqua, who will go into next week's grand slam as Australia's top ranked player following the injury-forced withdrawal of Lleyton Hewitt, was today drawn to meet a qualifier in the first round.

But she will find it difficult to continue her run of making the third round or better in grand slams this year with Serbian Ivanovic likely awaiting the 23-year-old Australian in round two.

Samantha Stosur has fared even worse, with the world No.71 drawn to meet seventh seed Venus Williams in the opening round.

Fellow Australian Jessica Moore will play American world No.221 Melanie Oudin in the first round while Russian-born Aussie Anastasia Rodionova has drawn Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova.

In the men's draw, Chris Guccione should be confident of advancing passed the first round in a grand slam this year after drawing 106th ranked American Jess Levine.

If he does advance, Guccione – the world No.88 – will likely meet 25th seeded Czech Radek Stepanek in the second round with deposed No.1 Roger Federer poised to follow in round three.

American-born Australian Carsten Ball, who has been handed a wildcard for the tournament, will face Serbian Viktor Troicki in his ATP Tour debut.
