Essendon midfielder Damien Peverill has been told his services are no longer required at the AFL club, according to a report.
The Nine Network reported Peverill, 29, a veteran of 142 games, had been told he was no longer part of the club's rebuilding process and would be forcibly announcing his retirement next week.
The left-footer, who made his debut in 2001, is understood to be keen to continue his career, possibly at another club.
An Essendon spokesman last night said the club would not discuss speculation about players' futures.
