23-year-old charged with sexual assault of elderly woman

A man has been charged with sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman in the Hunter.

The elderly woman was asleep in her Karuah home at 5.30am on the 10th of August, when a 23-year-old man allegedly broke in and threatened to kill her.

Police say the man then sexually assaulted her, before fleeing the scene.

The 80-year-old woman managed to alert a neighbour some time later.

The man was arrested by Port Stephens police yesterday, he's now been charged with aggravated break and enter and aggravated indecent assault.

He's been refused bail.

Now our sick society produces young men who even rape our elderly ladies. I hope they throw the book at him. Dont give me the 'rape is about power' BS either. This is the product of today. Maybe someone can prove me wrong, but I never can remember our elderly ladies being raped anytime in my life, like today. Makes me sick to my stomach.

its becoming something of a problem in this area susan, and it is so frightening. more eldering women are at home alone because they live longer and are independent, i guess. its just so abhorent. throwing a book at them is just not enough. at least the have caught the last couple. i cannot write here what i wish we could do to them.
