The Prime Minister will outline his grand vision for the nation today, during a key-note speech in Canberra.

Kevin Rudd will speak before the National Press Club today, outlining five key ways to make Australia a more secure and economically robust country.

The speech comes as the Opposition threatens to block key measures from Labor's first budget, but Treasurer Wayne Swan says Mr Rudd will outline why that's irresponsible.

“We need long term plans for the future,” he said.

“That’s why we need to modernise our economy, which is what the Prime Minister will be talking about today.”

But, Shadow Treasurer Malcolm Turnbull has continued his assault on Labor's economic credentials, and isn't taking the Prime Minister's speech so seriously.

“He may be announcing some new intergalactic agreement of some kind or another,” he quipped.

“I mean you never know what’s going to come out.”

Mr Rudd is also expected to promote a new school information system, detailing the socio-economic background of students and the experience of available teachers.

LIVENEWS.com.au will publish the full audio of the speech, as well as video highlights and reports from Canberra.

Let me guess , his 5 key ways to make us economically secure and robust, will be, 1: EFT's 2: Putting parents on welfare out on the street 3: Watching 4: Higher energy costs , for US. 5 : More overseas trips for the PM. I will watch the National press Club talk, and hope I hear something new from our countrys PM. The aged are going to be the majority in the very near future, I wonder if they will be among the long term plans for the future. Might be a good move to give them the rise, NOW!

Didn't we have an election not nine months ago where he had the opportunity to present his "vision for the future"? Didn't he come out and say "My name is Kevin, I'm from Brissie and I have a plan"? Didn't he promise to stop passing the buck and playing the blame game? Hes finally spun himself into a corner and people are starting to wake up and realise this incompetent paper pusher hasn't got a clue and never has.

I know what Rudds vision for the future is, Australia becomes a Republic and he is in place as our 1st President. This new Republic only has room for highly educated students that want to learn to speak Asian and sit at there laptops all day. If your old, disabled or not highly educated you will be either starved out or homeless because you cannot afford food or rent or a mortgage. You wont be able to work unless you join a union & Mr Rudd will travel the world surrounded by all the celebrities

More meaningless words. Wonder why Rudd feels that he has to update his election spin? Is he getting feed back that the people are not buying his hallow promises to the same extent that they did before the election? He keeps wafting on about the future-that’s fine- but to have a future one must have a present and the present is not looking too good for 'working families'.
