Kosmina keeps Perth guessing on Aloisi

29/08/2008 7:02:00 PM.  |
Sydney FC coach John Kosmina was keeping Perth Glory guessing as to whether he would unleash Socceroos striker John Aloisi for his club debut in Sunday's A-League clash at Sydney Football Stadium.

Aloisi was not named in Sydney's squad on Thursday after missing the opening two weeks of the season with a foot injury.

But after completing a full week of training, both the marquee star and Kosmina hinted Aloisi could yet see some game time at the SFS.

"We are a bit short of bodies with Stuey (Musialik) suspended," Kosmina told reporters today.

"It might be worth a change to put Johnny there, why not?

"Johnny was keen when he was on crutches, so that's important and it's good that he is keen."

After reportedly signing the most lucrative contract in Australian domestic football to join Sydney from the Central Coast, Aloisi today said he was confident he was ready for a return.

"It's up to the coach now," Aloisi told Fox Sports.

"I've been training well and I'm feeling good. But it's up to Kossie when he wants me to play.

"I'm just looking forward to making my debut, whether it's this one or the following one against Newcastle."

Skipper Tony Popovic, who has also missed the opening two rounds with a hamstring complaint, may also be a late inclusion after being left off the squad sheet, with Kosmina unlikely to reveal his hand until an hour before kickoff on Sunday.

The competition schedule will likely feature heavily in Kosmina's decision making.

With the A-League taking a week off next weekend because of Australia's international commitments, Aloisi and Popovic would essentially have a full fortnight to get back to 100 per cent fitness for Sydney's next game against the Jets if they again sit out Sunday night.

If either are included, however, it is likely they'll start on the bench.

The match will be Simon Colosimo's first against his old club, but the former Glory skipper insists he is treating the game no different to any other.
